“ When my daughter visits from ATL, her MaMere during the holidays, or just visiting because she needs a mommy hug; Kouzan is a constant for us. OMG‼ Delicious! Fresh! And always delectable food. It's one of the most visited places on the UWS, and literally 1 block away from me. Ok, theses are our favorites : Shrimp & Fried Veggie tempura, fried shrimp, miso soup, chicken katsu, edamame, steam vegetable dumplings, fried chicken (Tatsuta Age), Green Tea Cheese Cake, chocolate truffle dessert & Roasted Honey Duck "Run Forrest Run!" to Kouzan ”
“ Nice spot for sushi in the Upper West Side. Stopped here with my wife for dinner and right away we were greeted and seated in the bar area, which was warm and cozy on a cold winter's night. Started with some warm edamame and beers, then a seaweed salad and several rolls. My wife had a roll with eel along with a spicy salmon roll. I went with a spicy tuna roll and avocado-peanut roll. Love the avocado-peanut roll, only second sushi spot I've seen it on the menu. Everything was fresh and tasty. Definitely good value for the money. Atmosphere is clean and modern. Service was very friendly and fast. ”
“ Love Kouzan! Ordered our sushi and they delivered on New Year's Eve! Have been going to and having delivered for years. Don't want to order from any other! ”
“ Still our fav sushi place on the UWS. Whether you're dining in or having it delivered, its fresh, delicious and consistently good. The lunch special is the best value, the udon stir fry or udon soup is a great sushi alternative. The miso dressing is flavorful. There's a full bar with great wine selection, they have a beautiful Pinot noir to complement your meal and to warm you up. The staff here is the best, truly, and once you come a few times, you will come back as family. We love it here, it feels like community and its nice to have those spots where people know you and your family, a great counterbalance to the chain places that are anonymous and lack personality. ”
“ When Kouzan opened we were a bit disappointed. Why? Because neither my husband nor I eat sushi or sashimi. We would, however, enjoy their lovely outdoor seating in the nice weather to have a drink or two, usually once a week. I mentioned this to our server, Amanda, who suggested we try one of the dishes "from the kitchen." My husband has to watch his sodium and will be going in for an operation soon, so when I mentioned that, she took it upon herself to watch his diet, suggesting chicken teriyaki "with light on soy sauce." But upon looking more closely, my husband noticed the broiled scallops, one of his favorites. Amanda gave him her approval. The scallops were plentiful and delicious, along with white rice (next time we'll request brown) sauteed vegetables and a crisp fresh salad, with a delicious dressing. It was a meal that he plans to order again. I had the beef teriyaki because I rarely have red meat, with th light soy, as she suggested. Also good, but definitely not as delicious as those scallops. As, I said, Amanda, and also Nini, are lovely servers and along with the delicious cuisine, we now no longer just go for a drink on a pleasant evening. I may even try the sushi and sashimi. ”
“ So good! To start their drinks are really good, highly recommend the coconut mojito, it was delicious. They make one of my favorite appetizers shishito peppers and their calamari is excellent. For a main I tried a one of their specialty rolls w/ yellowtail and spicy tuna. I don't remember its name just that I loved it. Look no further if you want great casual Japanese food on the upper west side. Makes me miss living here, best neighborhood in Manhattan! ”
“ I love ordering from Kouzan with my family. I usually get the same thing in my order. This time around I'm trying to order more sashimi and more fish and less tomago. My new order is a spicy tuna roll without tempura, a Philadelphia roll, salmon sashimi, octopus sashimi, tuna sashimi, and sometimes scallop sashimi. I get the daikon radish salad on the side and edamame to start. Kouzan is my favorite Japanese restaurant to order from on the upper west side. I've also been a fan of the steamed seaweed, the miso eggplant dish, the bento boxes, the dumplings, and the teriyaki. I've had all of my graduation parties here and recently the restaurant gifted us with a complimentary bottle of sake because we are frequent guests. Anytime anyone asks about my recommendations of food in NYC, I tell them that they would be crazy not to try the food from Kouzan. I would vouch for this restaurant with my life. The fish is fresh, the flavors are to die for, the food is nutritious, and the service is wonderful. I'm graduating in the summer to achieve my second master's degree and I sense another potential party at Kouzan coming up! I look forward to it! ”
“ I loved the chicken teriyaki bento box here! It came with both spring rolls and california rolls, along with a side of seaweed. The chicken itself was juicy and fresh. Staff were very nice and had our order ready to go for pick up once we arrived. ”
“ A nice, quick restaurant for Japanese foods. They carry the typical selections of a normal Japanese spot and are moderately priced. They offer out door seating as well. I did feel like we were being rushed when we were putting in our order and because of this they didn't hear my date order a Malbec. When we asked for it again they did bring it quickly. ”
“ Kouzan! Kouzan! I've had it both ways: Raw and cooked. Amazingly both sides of the menu were up to par. Kouzan chooses the concept of a restaurant presenting a smaller, well-crafted menu over a huge hodge podge of mid-to-average dishes. The ingredients are consistently fresh, tasty and cooked to, dare I say, perfection? The first time I recommended this place to a colleague, I heard nonstop praises of satisfaction and hunger dominated. Listen, it's not like a super fancy place to bring someone you really want to impress. However, it does have a great atmosphere, serves a sizeable set of specials, and delivers exactly what it promises. While I am new to Kouzan, it's no surprise to me that it's been thriving since 2007. While I usually enjoy a mix of fish, appetizers, and entrees consisting of eel, salmon, tuna- other options do exist. If you're near the area, you should definitely check this one out. ”
